Default ? about the MLS

I am a realtor in Illinois, I work at a campground selling recreational property. It is real estate, with personal property on it.

Right now I am a member of the MLS because I also sell residential real estate outside of the campground.

I want to stop selling residential and sell strictly campground property. So I am trying to cancel my MLS membership and they are saying I cannot do that, because my broker is a member. So if your broker is a member you automatically have to be?

We don't put ANY campground property in the MLS, so I don't see why I would have to stay a member. Do I have a chance to fight this, or is it a lost cause?

Also there are 3 other Realtors in the office that are not members but they told me they were grandfathered in that way.

Thanks for the help!
Ashley

Not sure which MLS your talking about Ashley but if it's MLSNI, then yes..you're stuck.

MLSNI recently made some changes to their system. If the Broker is a member then ALL agents under him/her have to be members as well. The reason they did this was because there were large offices that would have 50+ agents and they would only have a handful of agents be members and the rest of the office would share the same MLS.
Your fellow agent who say they are "grandfathered" in are not exempt either. If one of your competitors found out that all the agents in the office are not members, there would be problems.

Hope this helps.

If you are not going to sell residential, do you need to be associated with that broker? Can you put your license in a referral status?

Here it is the same as you describe, if the broker is a member then all agents associated must also be members. It has been that way here for loooong time.
