I am not a realtor, but a researcher who is interested in the real estate market. My research demands the single-family repeat-sale transaction data of metropolitan area like Dallas, Washington D.C. and etc. After surfing on the internet for a while, I found this forum.

What I need is to collect individual house’s transaction data for the past 5 years. Each record should include at least the sale prices, the square feet, sale year/month, and street addresses. I know the data exist. But I don’t know where they are. Can anybody here give me a hint? Thanks a lot.

You really have two options: 1) Befriend a local real estate agent who has access to the MLS and get the data that way. 2) Public records - Usually the clerk of the court maintains these. You also may want to try the local property appraiser. Some places have great information available online while others are very lacking.
