Default Argh... blog comments

One thing I seem to have issue with is obtaining meaningful blog comments on a regular basis. Sure I get the 1 line link comments, but very seldom anything of value to discuss.

Am I the only one?

I've been doing some research (actually quite a bit) and what I have discerned is this:
Real Estate blogs seldom get significant coverage or comments. Other blogs like those for seo and what not, get lots of comments. Boo Hoo

Since my other blog link idea went over like a lead balloon, here is another thought:

I'd like to put together a small group of blog commenters to post meaningful comments and get a regular round table going.

If you have a blog (real estate related) and you're interested in exchanging meaningful comments let's hear from you.

Let's see if we can't get a few good discussions going and generate some meaningful discussions and traffic for eachother.

Which blog do you want people to post on? If you have the nofollow on your comments I don't think you will get much action.

Yep. It is a tough thing to do (generating live conversations with a customer facing blog as opposed to a REALTOR facing one...). I think how to engage a potential customer (or other interested local party) into a discussion is the crux of great blogging.

That very question is being discussed at a number of blogs that I regularly contribute to...I think the most successful bloggers are doing it by making it a community weblog and not a real estate weblog. Real estate, while fascinating to us in the RE community, does not hold the captivating power for the masses that we'd like to think...

Local issues do though...and I think that is part of the key to it.

Best;

Eric

Thanks guys for the replies.

Eric, I completely agree.

Making a community oriented webblog would certainly be beneficial, unfortunately there are so many out there already established.

I've commented on a few community blogs, but the topics tend to be very dry and uninteresting to me or extremely negative (best bar, restaurant, let's stop the airport, PC doesn't need growth, too many condos oh the list is endless) and I have better things to do with my time then disagree endlessly with these negative comments.

My thoughts are to start a new blog which can relate to several areas, Resort condos and the surrounding areas family entertainment venues as one example.

Sam,

I've started a new WP blog just for this purpose hosted there. Comments have the nofollow turned off but all are moderated. I've not started it yet as I want to see the interest in forming this type of community first.

As much as I'd like to have a hosted blog on my site, it's just too expensive to setup. I do have comments on many of our sites pages if anyone cares to make meaningful comments. Yes, you can place links but they are moderated there as well.

If someone already has something similar to this, please post here or send me a link. I'd love to get in on some positive discussions (other than REW discussion forums of course ).

Jessie,

It sounds like an ego thing. I suffer from the same problem! It's like, you write about something, you think it's important and a little confirmation that someone is reading it and commenting about it would be a nice affirmation that you are speaking to a relevant issue. Comments are cool, but, it's the contacts that matter. Just do what you do (you do it well) and when you start to rank for your posts, the real comments (from consumers) will come in the form of contacts.

I promise to swing by every once and a while and let you know someones reading what you write.

LOL Ryan, thanks for the compliment, YOU THE MAN

I'm sure it has to do quite a bit with ego (I think (actually, I'm quite sure) I never lost my egotism from my musician days).

But, it also has to do with attempting to remove the stigmatism the media has attached to the state of the economy and real estate specifically.

I think constructive comments both pro and con are a healthy outlet and bring topical discussions to the publics eye more readily.

A little extra traffic and business for all would be nice as well

I am going in another direction with my blog. I am trying to get a bunch of contributors. So far I have 2 lenders, the home builders association, and a couple of community organizations posting their events. I plan on adding more lenders, home inspectors, attorneys and anybody else who wants to be a part of the community.

I know this may sound a little silly, but have you ever thought of actually asking people to post their feedback at the end of your blog posts? I did this a while back and wouldn't you know it, I actually got a couple of people posting some comments on my blog. Buuuuut then I got lazy and completely forgot about it. May be worth a shot.

Bigtoe - I too have a lender as a guest author from time to time and his posts have gotten comments and questions. Great idea for additional content as long as you coach contributors and edit as needed.
