Welcome from the Chicago area, Barry. What part of the midwest are you from? I've been in the business for 22 yrs. & although I tried the door knocking routine I gave it up very quickly. There are other ways to market but many agents just won't try them (many times because they cost money or are too much trouble).
My son works the same hours as you & is Mr. Mom when his wife works and I just don't know when you guys get to sleep!

Hi Judy,
I am from the Saint Louis area. On all the tapes and seminars I attend I hear people pushing the concept of door knocking as the core to business building. Yet everyone I know who does it, says that they have had dissapointing results. Could it be that door knocking is fading as the deffinative "working technique"? I think so. Reading the messages on this board makes me think that Internet marketing still has a way to go. But when it REALLY catches on, I intend to be up, running, and ready. People always ask me "when do you sleep?" The answer is, I do not sleep. I takes naps. I try to sleep, but there is always a phone ringing, or a loud truck driving by, or someone knocking on my door (the ironry). I have it easy. I am single, have no kids, and live alone. For the life of me, I can not even begin to imagine how your son does it...and thats coming from someone who has been working 3rd shifts for 5 years!!! |

Barry,
My son just called me this morning for the first time ever asking me if I'd come over to babysit because he was passing out! LOL! Knocking on doors is just a "simple" way to allow new agents to introduce themselves that doesn't require a huge monetary investment. You still need to have some kind of hand out and unless you're tough as nails you'll deal with nasty people, have doors slammed in your face and have huge dogs at your heels, which will end this type of prospecting very quickly! I still prefer direct mail and am also trying to create my Internet presence because I also believe it will be one of the most important tools down the road.
