For everone who has been following the very long thread about the NAR Code of Ethics change that can prevent us from using 'MLS' AT ALL, we have now created a petition asking that the NAR rescind that portion of the code of ethics and I ask that all concerned, please read the REW blog post I wrote about it here.

This has the potential to do great harm to our ability to accurately market our listings as well as creates an extremely anti-competitive environment to work from as professionals in our industry by limiting our ability to market effectively the most important asset that we have as agents while simultaneously allowing outside-the-industry forces to market using the term.

I certainly do not wish to force my opinion on anyone, but, I certainly do hope that you will take the time to consider the consequences.

Ryan,

I was corresponding with a few agents today and a new suggestion popped in my head:

Perhaps a blanket draft email available on the site for anyone who wants to spread the word can do so by cutting and pasting it into their email program and save as a draft?

This might give us a standard form of communication that anyone can use.

Thoughts?

Jim,

you have not signed it yet. You have to reply to the email to confirm that you are in fact who you say you are. Once you do that, you will have signed it...I can resend you the confirmation if you did not receive it.

Ryan,

Along the same line as Jesse suggested for a draft email to send to other members to spread the word, how about one to also send to NAR board members?

I just participated in such an email campaign with regards to HR-3915, the New Mortgage Reform Act passed by the House of Representatives. Because it came about so quickly, the lending industry did not have any time for petitions or other avenues of addressing the issues. Instead, they gave access to two draft emails. One for industry members to send to anyone else notifying them of the new law and the vote and asking for their help in getting the act amended. The other one was for sending to the legislators themselves. In a period of about 36 to 48 hours, 178,000+ emails hit the congress persons email boxes and the new act was amended right before the final vote.

Just a thought for another avenue for members to let the NAR Board know their feelings about this issue. Keep it simple, polite and to the point and it might just help the effort.
