Default Where would you like to syndicate today?

Ok guys - REW Blogs V2 version testing is well underway and we are getting some great response.

Next on my list is compiling syndication options for your listings. As you are no doubt aware, there are a lot of great options in terms of submitting your listings to portals (Such as Craigslist) however you are also likely aware, that many members are of the opinion that sending listings to these "portals" such as Google Base, empowers the portals with the content necessary to compete with you.

There are 2 very valid points - why help the potential future competition or because your current competition (Brokers and agents) are providing this syndication as part of their service, your customers may expect the same as you.

Anyways - for those of you who DO wish to syndicate your listings and have them viewed by the most potential buyers - we are going to be providing you tools to do this in a centralized, simple and controlled environment (Right from your REW Blogs console) - This syndication will be 100% optional, and opt in - we will never syndicate a members listings who do not wish to have their listings sent to specific portals - The choice is up to you, we are just providing you the options.

Now onto the question at hand: What are the most important portals for you (The users) that we can create applications for to syndicate.

Some applications as examples (That are already being worked on)

Google Base (Existed in V1, and is being revamped for V2 due to new listings features)

Craigslist (Almost everyone wants this one)

Trulia - This is where we start getting people not liking the portal, while others feel it is a must in todays real estate sales environment to be listed.

Hotpads - Seems to have some pretty good traffic

Zillow - Well, we pretty much all know how people feel about Zillow BUT is this a case of can't beat em, join em?

Kijiji - Where I live, this site dominates a LOT of real estate related long tail serps.

Oodle - It has a cool name

The list goes on and on - My first 2 priorities are Google Base (Probably be done next week) and Craiglist (Would be nice the week after)

Other than that, I am pretty open - your thoughts?

Morgan, I think that you should give as many options as possible. I also think that giving users the control to not syndicate their listings is great.

The question I have is are you going to give the users the option to selectively opt out. say someone wants to put their listings in google base but not in zillow will they be able to do that from REW blogs?

That's a great idea Morgan. Exposing our listings to major real estate portals will increase the chances of people finding these properties. Here's my list:

Craigslist
Google Base
Yahoo Real Estate
Oodle
Lycos
Yell.com
Local.com
Backpage.com
Examiner.com
CityCribs.com
Trulia
LiveDeal
Edgeio
Propsmart
Uscondex.com
RealEstateAdvisor
Zillow.com
AgentVideoHomes.com

Hope this helps.

James - it will be selectively OPT IN, not OPT OUT - I am not going to syndicate listings automatically, because some members might now realize we are doing it, and may get upset when they realize they needed to opt out.

Rvolk - Currently edgeio.com - as they are shutting down operations. I have been toying with the idea of buying them as they have some impressive traffic stats, but something tells me they are shutting down operations and selling for way to cheap (A paulty quarter mil) so there may be some underlying reason they are selling their properties. Drew Myers made an offside comment about it having something to do with Craigslist, but no more info was given - thus I have a lot more research to do.

That's cool Morgan. The list that I provided above is where Point2 is syndicating their listings. Honestly, other than craigslist, none of them really worth the effort.

Just a thought, but how hard would it be to create your own listings portal? Unless I'm 100% fooled, I know where REW makes their money and the intentions for providing all of these services. I'd certainly be more interested in promoting a portal from REW then many of these other services.

Morgan, is the syndication still in the works or no? Curious if this will be something we will be able to do with our listings, thanks!
