I was thinking a bit today about how to improve the validity of our links pages (specifically those with their directories organized by state or area) and of course what came to mind was adding content to these pages that is not just an ordered list of title description. This can be time consuming and I (I think everyone) would rather spend time writing unique content on their own area which they could then provide to their users and hopefully make their site / area more attractive.
But is there a way to justify taking the time to write this content? Can it be used to generate leads? There has to be a way. One thing I was thinking about is writing / optimizing my state pages with unique content that talks about relocation “from” whatever state page “to” the area our site services. The keyword searches here would be much less here, but if someone types in “relocate to Denver from California” that is going to be a very qualified visitor. I would then of course have “Not looking to relocate from California” these realtors can help you find a home in your state Start realtor list. That idea I am not sold on, but do you see where I am trying to go with this? Another more profitable solution would be to set up referral relationships with one or more realtors in each state and then have a relocation lead capture system in place, above the links set, with relevant content laden throughout, but I do not understand the legal ramifications of this, nor if as realtors in different states you are allowed to receive commissions or % of said commissions for referrals if you are not a licensed agent in the state in which the lead is sent. Someone with more knowledge want to field this one? Anyone else have any great content ideas for our links pages so that we can make them not only relevant and beneficial to our link partners, but also turn enough of an ROI to make it worth taking the 5-10 hours it might take to create them?

What I had in mind is actually copywriting pages that are chalk full of relevant info about the area, and why someone would want to buy there, then underneath, have a lead capture form. Then below some more relevant info, and under that list your realtor link partners as if you are recommending them (Of course you would design it so that the emphasis is on them getting you to find a realtor for them.

I imagine some visitors could be encouraged to complete the "lead capture" form while others will simply want to follow a link and continue his/her search. Any ideas on how to capture these leads? |

Instead of using the time it would take to write content for every state I am going to just use my interior pages to put referral partners on.
Not only would it take a lot of time to write the content, the typical links page (by state or otherwise) has a large number of outgoing links which make them poor quality anyways. I figure I can put 10 referral partners on each of my interior pages. This will also keep me writting new pages of content relevant to my area so that I have room for new partners. Seems easy to me. A 100 page site would have room for 1000 high quality referral partners. I think this will be an improvement on the way I am currently doing it. No? |

I think it's a great idea, although, I dont think I would do 10, perhaps 5 per page. But of course that is your call. I have seen sites in really competitive markets las vegas for instance that have like 20 + partners on their index page and are not adversely effected.
Even at 5, I think having 500 "quality" link partners would allow you to dominate your markets (Especially if they are not in an ultra competitive market) Question - What are you going to ask from your partners for a link? By this I mean, you are giving them a much higher quality link from your site, are you going to be asking for a link from a page other than a links page as well?

Absolutely, I will only exchange links with like quality sites. I am still thinking pages with 10 or less outgoing links.

What about asking each "featured Link partner" to just write a unique paragraph about the area and all them all in Under each link.. that would add several KB of quality info and yet not take too much time to get and paste on there...
