Unhappy Realestatewebmasters kicked my Arse...

I was checking one of my client sites today that was sitting at # 8 for it's best kw's and had a heart attack when I didn't see it on the first page
Onto page 2 and there it is #11...Ok now what happened I say to myself back to the first page for an investigation....Lo and behold there are 3 of my posts sitting in 6,7 # 8...LOL

Time to change up the sig

Has anyone else been overtaken on any of their sites for a post with their sig from here

Rich, I have seen that happen with some of the less competitive keywords. Example, Phoenix Realtor

It may be enhanced placement from freshbot. If it is it will decline with time and your site should rise.

I have noticed that in the case of Phoenix Realtor.

I just checked Phoenix Realtor in Google.

I am #3

Seo-Guy is #6 & #7

Seo Chat is #9 & #10

So, out of the top 10 results 5 of them direct people to my site!

Jim-You are kicking arse and taking names. Congrats. I did a Google search of Maui Real Estate and saw one of my threads popped up but only on page 9 of the rankings. I guess that is a decent barometer of how competitive my main key word might be. I would also imagine my lower number of posts might have an impact as well.

I've seen more and more posts from this forum coming up on searches for various real estate terms. It might at first seem to be something to be proud of but honestly, don't you think it is degrading the quality of the search results? Do you really think that someone searching for "my city realtor" and comes across a bunch of chat room posts like "Welcome to the club, etc." do you really think that they think that those are quality results?

What if Google determines that these posts are corrupting their results? Could they penalize the sites that have posts here? Am I just paranoid?

It's one thing allowing a backlink in a profile page or something so members can see other member websites but allowing backlinks on every post makes me nervous that Google might see it as just a big spamming technique. Especially when new members are encouraged to have backlinks in their signatures in order to get free backlinks for every post.

I enjoy the forum very much but I just hope that somehow this doesn't get any of us penalized in Google or other search engines.

Tim, I think we're all on the same boat regarding forum threads in the SERP's. I wouldn't think that you should be concerned at all about the signatures though. IMO, If anything the weight of the sig links may be lessened but it wouldn't effect your sites or even the forum.

My sig passed me up in some serps this week... I do wonder with the results and how they are going to be treated by engines in the future.. but I guess its no different then looking at useless directories that take the top postions. atleast the forum has usefull content

IT it helps any I'd be willing to SEO a page for your main kw's on this site and have it so that it showed up with all your contact info etc kind of like relo experts does, at least that way when people are landing here there is a link to your site and your contact info etc, its not to much hastle as long as you provide me your info :-)

Oh yeah an WOOHOO #2 for Minneapolis lofts! heh, jk bro its actually a good thing, it means if you SEO that page properly for the KW then with the backlink from the sig you should take the forum out easy. Just ask Jim Messenger, he was being outranked for Phoenix Realtor everywhere he looked because it was his sig, then as his SEO and links kicked in those sig links helped him to the first page and he overtook just about everyone.

Good luck, lemme know if I can help you with any more questions about how sig links are to your advantage :-)
