Some of our videos and listings seem to be showing up on various social sites under various profiles. Non of which are real estate agents.
What does everyone think about this? Here are my thoughts: The videos all have copyright info in them, contact, phone, website etc. I'm thinking, more exposure and no competition since they're not real estate profiles. At the same time I'm think, "what the heck". I've left posts on the few I've found thanking them for helping me market the property but also that it is copyrighted work and I either want a link to the website or for them to remove the video. Thoughts?

I would be wondering why. Maybe it is something that can be used in other videos.

Are the videos and listings being taken from your site? It seems strange that someone would steal this content to post on a social site. What is their motivation? One thing you could do is ask them to link back to your website.
As long as the information has not been changed and your brand has not been tarnished, it seems like free help with your marketing efforts.

The videos are taken from you tbe. They have not been altered and our copyright and contact information remain intact.
I've asked for a link back, but who knows what's going on with it.

I would thank them for saving you some legwork on marketing your listings, asking for a link to website couldn't hurt and would only be a bonus if granted.

If they're using the YouTube player, they're free to embed your video. They don't have to remove it or link to your site.
You may have an argument if you hosted the vid on your own site.

I think that's great -- just remember to do your videos with an intro and close with your domain name. Who cares about link juice if you can brand your domain (and services) name.

I don't know... when it comes to videos, it's pretty hard to control where they end up. If it's for promotional reasons though, then I would say spread it as much as you can
. The downside of that though is if people decide to edit the copyright information... not only would it be hard to track the poster's down, but it will probably be quite a pain to convince them to put the copyright info back the way it was originally. |
