Default Custom IDX question

My MLS (big) is in the process of merging with other local MLS (bigger) and will one day become a state wide MLS (huge). I have a feeling that when the mergers take place we will see 1000's of listings added weekly. I am concerned about not having any control over hosting charges. Is there a way to limit it? I don't want my hosting to become like my cell bill when I go over my minutes.

Jim, REW Custom IDX hosting fees are fixed regardless of the size of the MLS board - we currently already host the top 10 MLS boards with regards to volume of listings, we service over 90 MLS boards nationally, and our IDX servers house literally millions of records, no worries there - you will never pay any more than the standard MLS data hosting fee (Which is currently $360 per year, which works out to $30 a month)

Usually you don't pay more on hosting if the number of listings gets bigger. You just get a hosting plan and you pay for it, even if you use 10%, 50% of it. You just have to make sure that the hosting plan you use will work properly - you said a huge number of listings will be added soon, so you have to make sure you have a hosting plan which will allow you to add those listings in the database and the searches will work quickly. Usually, that's the most expensive one.

Jim I think it will also be some time before all of California data becomes available. I am in a merged area and while on the MLS side, I have access to a lot of data, the only IDX feed available is still just my region.

Jim IDX data can be 10-50M without pictures for 30-40k listings. You don't have to worry about hosting charges

What about with pictures? - SOCAL currently has 12 Gigs of images. REIL has ~7 Gigs.

Usually, the photos are the ones which need a lot of space. Sometimes you can use the photos online from the provider, but they usually don't allow it. I wouldn't recommend that, but it can be usefull sometimes(like when you don't have enough space anymore, because more listings were added so more photos were added and you want to change to a better hosting plan - you can use the photos online to keep it going and download them when you get a better hosting plan).

And you transfer them each time SOCAL/REIL updates their info?
I was talking about SANDICOR IDX files - without pics.
