Has anyone ever attempted coding/building their own custom IDX?
I contruct my own websites at this point and am wondering if anyone has attempted to do their own custom IDX.

My shoe string budget just isn't letting me hire rew just yet for a complete solution, so I am toying with the idea of playing around with my own custom IDX.

Its winter and I have a littel time to kill so trying to learn what I can. Hopefully I get a few good sales here soon and can forget this idea and just hire REW

Dave - creating a "usable" IDX solution is not really that big of a task for very accomplished programmers, but it is not for beginners or intermediates with regards to programming, as to do what you would likely want to do (After admiring REW) takes quite advanced knowledge of high level programming.

Also, there is the cost of hosting, to host even a small MLS boards data, would take much more than your basic web hosting account. Cron's updating large amounts of data each night, spiders hitting listings (IF you do it right) image hosting (In the gigs) even a cheap VPS that would just barely do the job is likely $100+ a month (This is just for the box) and then you need to know how to maintain it (Linux or windows training anyone?)

It's just not the ideal solution (Sounds like you already know this), so most of our members will not have undergone the process (Though there are a few that are very gifted programmers, that have accomplished it)

Although we typically do not provide financing options here at REW - if you really want an REW IDX, and you promise to make the most of it, feel free to give me a call and I can hook you up with a payment plan over the course of a year or something - I would ask, that if can pay it off earlier, that would be great.

You will likely want an REW site to go with it, so you can use snippets etc as well - we will bundle that all up for you.
