Default Multiple urls pointed to my site?

Is it okay to point multiple urls to different pages on my website (as ling as I 301 redirect those domains) or is this another Google "no, no". My site covers a lot of areas so I want be able to tell people interested in the Georgetown area to go to www.GeorgeownDCLiving.com (or whatever it may be). Thanks all...Kevin

I don't see that as a no-no, but I don't see much benefit either.

I'm not sure if that is a no-no and it can have some SEO benefit. Keywords in the URL is something that Google looks at when determining SERP.

As long as you properly do a 301 to them, it's no penalty.

The positive is the very tiny boost it will give your website, as they gain age, but that isn't really worth it.

But the fact that you can give your clients easy to remember urls that are short? That's well worth it in my opinion.

Google accepts 301 redirects. I have done it a ton of times in the past and did not receive any kind of penalty for it. I do agree with Brandon about giving clients one URL to remember, kind of like branding something for someone to refer back to without searching.

How many 301s are you going to do? A few should be ok, but I would not do a bunch.

Matt Cutts talks about using 301s here:

http://www.wolf-howl.com/google/hey-...#comment-60743

Matt's also responded to a directory that was hit because of too many 301s:

301's are fine, in what we are talking about here.

What Matt says is NOT fine, is taking unrelated urls and pointing them to your site, whether to use old link juice or to try and take business (competitor typos).

Thanks all...Brandon you hit the nail on the regarding "why" multiple urls: easy for a client/agent/prospect to remember...that was my goal with it. I appreciate the clarification. Cheers...Kevin
