Default linking one of my sites to another

I have a 2nd REW site that is not yet live. the 2nd site will look like the first, only wider, and the content will be limited.

my plan is to link the 2nd site to the first. when someone clicks on 'search homes', it will take them from the 2nd site to the 'search homes' page on the first site. I doubt a person will even know they switched sites.

The same thing with 'Listings', as well as about 5 other 'city real estate' links. i will not be linking the 1st site to the 2nd.

are there any seo problems with this for either site? the 2nd site basically will be replacing the site in the middle link below. currently, the 'search mls' and 'my listings' already point to my current REW site.

i know it would be optimal to have a bunch of original content, but i am trying to sell real estate.

currently the 'selling a home' pages on both sites would be identical because its the original REW content.

i'm hoping all this will be ok.

I recommend deleting any duplicate site from the second site if you do not have the time to change it.

Linking site B to site A but not vice versa is ok, but I don't recommend going overboard. I would not do it anywhere but where you need to do it to send your visitors to the IDX (Throw out your idea for "area real estate" links)

thanks Morgan.

I have another idea. I inserted idx results on my 'city real estate' pages on my current REW site as suggested, which broke up that long content. see the bottom of http://www.youragentgreg dot com/brea-real-estate.php.

anything wrong with deleting some of the content from site #1 and putting it on site #2?

Whats the benefit of having a second site? Can't you do everything you need from the first site?

the 2nd site i already have. I'm switching a new REW site onto it's domain.

depending on the search terms, one site may show up and the other won't. or, sometimes, between the 2 sites I'll have four spots on the 1st page in a search.

So, yes one site can do it all, but the two sites will increase my exposure. for $30/ month, I'll do it.

This is known as Cross Site Linking and is HIGHLY penalized by Google .

Cross-linking occurs when site A links to site B, site B links to site C and site C links back to site A.

Search Engines spiders have filters to detect duplicate content. When pages containing duplicate content are detected, they are often assigned a duplicate content penalty, lowering the page's rankings from what it would have received naturally ... by much as -3.

It is considered "Spamming".

what's it called when site A has some links to site B, but not vice versa, and there is no duplicate content?

So long as there is no duplicate content, that shouldn't be considered spamming.

Are they on the same server and resolve to the same IP?

If the crosslinks aren't editorial and/or useful to your visitors, yes, Google will consider them as link spam. The good news is Google has a high tolerance for crosslinks, so don't expect them to slap you upside the head with a penalty.
