Default Daily routine to stay organzied and efficient

Are there any successful, happy, organized real estate agents out there that could give me a little advice on a daily schedule or routine that enables them to live less stressfully and more organized than me. I am getting by, but I feel a little scattered and that I could do things a little better. Even a good book or article that has enabled someone to be more productive on a daily basis in the real estate business would be helpful. Thank You.

I am by far not outwardly organized but one of my inspirations is Dr. Randy Pausch. You can watch his time management lecture on google here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...40380335567758

It is not a lecture just for academics or students, but outlines ways to get a little more done in each day. Randy really knows how precious time is.

I am not hugely organized, but every day before i leave I write up a to do list for the next day and then start there the next morning. The one thing that helps me get stuff done is getting to the office and starting to work before 9am every day. I used to come in around 9:30 or 10:00 to miss traffic, but it's better to miss traffic on the early side.

IMO, this is excellent advice and should be taken into consideration!

I have a set schedule I follow rigorously (Note: this schedule can change at a moments notice based on needs and phone calls LOL not so rigorous!):

M-F
7am-8am - Coffee, answer emails
8am-10am - site promotion answer phones
10am-12pm - Writing/prospecting/listings (articles, blogs, photos of properties, prospecting, add listing to mls and the web) answer phones, what ever)
12pm-1pm -lunch, answer phones
1pm-4pm - More Writing/prospecting/listings/Consulting (includes client calls, follow-ups, new business prospecting, training, signage, photos), answer phones
4pm-6pm - Web promotions, training, incoming calls, more writing, answer phones

After 6pm I'm a free agent and do whatever strikes me. Usually this entails getting a start on tomorrows business... answer phones!

Now, when I started I was nowhere near this organized (hint hint) and struggled constantly trying to maintain a schedule.

My Solution?

I gave up on the schedule and got into the rythm of the day and let what ever happened during the day guide my time. IMO, if you are in real estate, there is no such thing a set schedule or fully organized day. Things change minute by minute and you react to the change as needed.

I still always write a list of what MUST be done the next day! If nothing else, this has saved my butt countless times...

Good luck.

Great advice. Thanks to all of you. I watched the video on time management and I like the idea of planning my to do list at the end of my day while everything is still fresh on my mind. I have been getting up in the morning and writing my to do when things aren't as fresh. Thanks Jessie for sharing your daily routine with me. I have been getting frustrated at how much time I have been spending behind my desk but you help verify that it is how communication with clients is taking place now a days. I have this old school " out pounding the pavement" mentality that I need to adjust a little bit.

Thanks for that...I am going to take a look at that as well. I find that there is never enough time in the day and find that sometimes I am working late into the night to get things done that I couldnt finish earlier...thanks again and hopefully he can help ME!

I guess I will have to take a look at it as well. I try to stay to a schedule, but the best laid plans of mice and men... However, if I want to sleep at night, I have to have my to do list done or forget sleeping! One thing I always keep asking and even thought about posing the question here? When is the best time to call potential clients and leave a message or not the first time you call?
