I am running into an issue with google maps api where I lost the ability to obtain SOME LatLng values for addresses that worked in the past using:
geocoder.getLatLng(address,....) When I type the same exact address into google's website that map is drawn perfectly. Anyone experiencing the same issues? Any ideas?

Geocoding is tricky. Are there strange characters in some of the addresses? Dashes, commas, apostrophes?

No strange chars at all, all address data is in plain text trimmed and, per your comment, I just wrote a regular expression function that strips any chars that are not a-z A-Z 0-9, dots and simple dashes and still getting the same result.

Wish I could help more. Geocoding here in Hawaii is so impossible that we have to jump through hoops - import TMK data and do a lot more work to get accurate plots.

I use Yahoo Geocode API http://developer.yahoo.com/maps/rest/V1/geocode.html
Yahoo gives more accurate results than Google Geocoder |

Thank you guys, switching to Yahoo! API.

If you're considering a complete switch, definitely evaluate MS Virtual Earth as well. I was surprised that we had much better luck with theirs than Yahoo's API - for some reason, the Yahoo Maps took forever to load on IE - we tried everything before switching. And the only reason we didn't use Google was that the aerial maps coverage over here wasn't as good yet.

There is also a know issue with Google API. In many cases it will return a completly incorrect map. The same address on maps.google.com returns the correct map. Based on comments on forums related to google maps, the API and the map Site use different methods of determing address. The API uses a "Best Guess" method that many times is wrong. The bad thing is that you can not turn this off and other than looking at the map, there is no way to determine the the map is incorrect.

I agree with yahoo geocoding as well ... i used it before and it works much faster and it usually returns the latitude and longitude for most of the streets
