Default Texas requiring fingerprints for agents

Texas is now requiring everyone applying for or renewing a real estate salesperson or broker license to provide fingerprints in a specified format so that we can have the FBI do criminal background checks on us. Any other states or provinces requiring this?

Not that I am aware of, but I don't think that it is a bad idea to fingerprint real estate agent. I know that you cannot obtain or renew a real estate license in WA State if you have unpaid child support.

Don't worry, I don't know from experience

Not sure how long New Jersey has been doing that but they are doing it as well.

Sounds like Big Brother is watching and I don't like it!

If you think about it, you don't even own the land your house is on even if your house is paid off. Don't believe me? Try not paying your property taxes for a few years and see what happens.

Not doing finger printing in South Carolina, but I think it is a good idea.

It's not required in DC, MD or VA either. This sounds like a practice many states may follow in the future.

I just renewed my TX broker's license in November so I won't have to get fingerprinted until late 2009.

The TX Dept of Savings and Loans have been fingerprinting mortgage brokers and loan officers for years.
