Default Need help - unmountable boot volume

I have a Dell laptop that was Windows Vista, about a month or so ago I got rid of Vista and put in Windows XP sp-2, no problems.

Today I start up and I get the blue screen with "unmountable boot volume" plus other stuff on the page. I did a search online, tried the fix which is to boot to the Win XP CD then do recovery, chkdsk, fixboot, but still I get the blue screen with "unmountable boot volume".

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks!

I've never heard of that one before. But I did a search and came up with a bunch of sites with solutions. Which site did you use to try and fix it? (Microsoft was the first site that popped up for Unmountable Boot Volume)

I tried a few and they all pretty much said to do the same thing, I am still playing with it, going to try again but doesn't look good

Well last time I saved all my important data was 12/29/07 so yeah I did a lot of work this month and lost a lot of files, I can live with it I guess. Thank God most of the stuff I really need is already on my web site, the photo's, files and page wite ups, etc so I can just download the images and other stuff that I did in Jan from my back end. There are a lot of things I did for work not web site related that I guess I am out of luck, the repair shop pretty much said he does not think he can recover the data. I spoke to Dell and they said when I get my laptop back to call them and see what they can do with me over the phone and will send me a new hard drive if they can't fix it.

I had just gotten rid of Vista on 12/29/07 and added Win XP service pack-2, so like I said I lost a months worth of stuff, but I can deal with it but I HATE working on my desktop, I need my laptop back

Once I get my laptop back I now have to reinstall all the software which is the biggest pain of all.

Actually I did lost my excell spreadsheet with al my closed sales the past month (past 2 years actually) and taxes paid on each, but again I can just do it again, I have the excel sheet as of 12/29/07 on my desktop so not a major catastrophy.
