I have been hearing that agents are leaving the business in large numbers. I know the office fees and other expenses that come with being in this business can really hurt if you are not closing deals.
How do you see things shaking out in the coming months in regards to people leaving the business? I know some seasoned agents now that have taken second jobs just to pay the bills because there business has come to a grinding halt?

Agreed, the more that drop out, the more business for us. I think we will lots more agents getting out the business in the coming months.

I agree; smell ya later. It's a symptom of a broken system where too many unsuccessful agents chase big commissions and earn just enough to almost make it worthwhile. Time to trim the fat. Too bad they'll be back when the market swings up again.

My regional MLS is planning on a loss of 500 members per month. They actual raised monthly member fees to cover the expected loss of revenue.

I haven't notice a particular en masse exodus from my market, but I have noticed that several of the major players don't have near the signage that they used to and several of them have found other/supplemental careers.

They're dropping like flies in our area as well.
Many who got into the business during the boom years are not able to sustain their way of life and seem to not be renewing their dues. Quite a few offices are consolidating and/or closing their doors completely.

It's really weird. Several long standing offices in my area have closed or are shopping around for offices to partner up with. One of the offices going down is run by a broker that has a bad reputation in the area & no one wants to consolidate with this broker.
Offices closing down and I just hired one son to do my paperwork and am sending my oldest son to get his license to build my team. In fact, I was surprised when my son told me there were around 30 people in the real estate class. I didn't expect even that amount. Good luck to the newbies! I really feel the offices & agents dropping out just haven't caught up with the times. They are the dinosaurs going extinct because they refuse to move forward in the industry by learning new techniques and getting involved online. What I don't understand is that many of these offices & agents were around when I started my career, which was when we were in recession in the early '80's. They survived that but now they're giving up? Again, back then, once the recession lifted, the old ways worked. They just don't anymore.

It is not just the new agents leaving.

You are right Jim. I have talked with a couple of folks who have been in the business for 15 years and are working at department stores right now.
