I would like to introduce myself to the club. My name is Jesse Smith. I am a Tampa Realtor. My website is www.tampareoman.com (it's still a work in progress, but it is getting there). As you'll see, I use a Point2agent website template. I was just too busy and couldn't afford a custom made website when I was starting out in the biz, so I did what I could with their templates. I changed ALL of the wording and added a lot of pages. I use to work for a webhosting company in my IT adventures, so I feel like I am cheating with the template....but it has a good rank on MSN for "Tampa Realtor" and "tampa foreclosures"...so I think I am going to stick with it.

Hope everyone is well, and please tell me what you think about templates vs. custom for search engine placement. I will be looking for some link partners pretty soon so I hope some people will be able to help me with that.

thanks guys. I have already done a ton of reading and researching the last few days and thanks to JudyO I found this place. I used to have some spam on my site, but before coming here and asking JudyO, I removed all of it I thought. I was just made aware there was one little sentence I didn't notice while I was cleaning it last week. I have promptly taken care of it.

One question though, why does all SEO people say spam is bad, but the top 10 search results do it?

I'm really an SEO novice here but even though it seems others get away with having spammy stuff on their sites & currently seem to rank well, the day might come along where they lose their position completely because of it. Not worth it to take that risk.

The best thing for you to do is develop your own strategy and not worry too much about what others are succeeding with unless of course their strategies are solid and ethical.
I have seen a lot of companies dominate the search engine world 3 years ago which have completely disappeared from SERPs and took their clients down with them. Even though msn ranks some spammers high, you don't have to spam to get up there as well.

well, I am here to learn and be tutored! So when I post something you don't agree with....be gentle because it was just the way I was told before.

I have an extensive IT background and know a lot of REAL web geniuses and I take their word as gold when it comes to a lot of things web related....but I hate the way the spam looks on websites so instead of the fast quick way to the top.....I want to make sure my site is clean and to the top.....without paying an arm and leg.
