Default Goofle Analytics

Went live with my site this week now ready to start tracking. I have registered my site at GA but not sure where to place their code. Please advise.

You need to place the code somewhere in the header.

<head>
Google Analytics Code
</head>

It may work in the header, but you should really put it right before the end body tag (</body>).

realbiz do you have a REW site? If so, I think they have updated the back end system (tools) so you can put the code into the site. If this doesn't work ask in the template support forum.

Actually, it looks like oyu are an REW user - there should be a "tools" link in your backend, you can stick your analytics code in there - the system takes care of the rest - if you have any issues, feel free to post in the REW customer support forums for some non billable assistance.

Googles instructions are:
"Copy the following code block into every webpage you want to track immediately before the </body> tag.

<script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript">
</script>
<script type="text/javascript">
_uacct = "UA-3526595-1";
urchinTracker();
</script>

My problem was, I could not locate </body> tag in the HTML code of my home page but it looks like someone has taken care of it for me at REW since GA shows that it's receiving data.

Is this telling me that the code is there?

Think I solved the mystery:
Per their instructions, "Google Analytics will itself check to see that the tracking code has been installed correctly on the home page of your site - once you've created a new profile, the Tracking Status will display a warning, "Tracking status unknown," until the system detects the code.

If you used a WYSIWYG ("What you see is what you get") editor such as Macromedia Dreamweaver, make sure that you don't see the code when you're viewing your page in a browser. Some such editors will attempt to place the code as text on your page - try to use the "source" view when you're pasting the code to your web pages.

Finally, once your page is live, select View Source from your browser's menu and look for the code. It should be immediately before the </body> tag of your page, and should look exactly as it was provided to you."

I did infact verify that it was there. It was placed dircetly below my header:
<h1>Colorado Fine Homes and Real Estate</h1>

Hope this helps others with the same question.

Thanks for your feedback

Google Analytics works just fine in the header, but if it works in the body too that would probably be better.

Does anybody know the difference if it is at the bottom of the header vs the bottom of the body?

When I viewed my source from the browser on my main page it is inserted in (2) places: below the header at the top and before the body tag at the bottom of the page. (This is contrary to what I have read that it only needs to be before the body tag at the bottom but I'm going with it) My other pages show it inserted befor the body tag at the bottom of the page.

BTW GA shows that it's tracking but result (my visits) are abit low - 20 total in 2 days and some of those may be mine. I'm guessing I should add some filters to exclude my IP's.
