Default force us to close early?

We are in the process of selling a condo in LA and buying a home in Montana. We have dual representation and our realtor is really awesome but she is also pushing us to close quickly. Our condo should close almost the same time as our house and we'd like to wait. Can she require that we close early because the sellers are really anxious?

In my area (Illinois), setting the closing date is really between the buyer & their attorney (& mortgage company), not the agent or the sellers. IOW, let your attorney know that you're not ready to close until the time you feel most comfortable with, as long as it's within the contract date that was agreed to.

If you had a date on the contract then you should be able to wait until then. If the agent starts pushing to hard remind them that they work for you also and it isn't in your best interest to close early.

If the sellers needs you to close early and it works for you, see if they will give you some money...at least equal to your extra mortgage costs.

Thank you both for your input. It's nice to hear professional objective advice because sometimes the only voice you hear is the one that wants its own way and you start to think that's your only option.
