Google Analytics works with Wordpress? tried installing one on mine and doesnt work xxx.oratransplant.nl/uga/

Of course. There are a number of Wordpress plug-ins to drop in google analytics. I'm not sure which is the best these days, but a little research should turn up any number that will work just fine.

I've tried of few of the plugins and couldn't get any of them to work.

I do have analytics working on the blog though: I pasted the code into the header.php and it seems to work fine.

It may work in the header, but you should really place it in the end body tag (</body>), which is generally found in the footer file.

You don't need a plug-in to make it work. Go to:
Presentation > Theme Editor

Choose the theme you're using, pick the footer.php file, and drop in the tracking script. That's it.
