Default Video Software

Can anyone recommend software that would allow me to transfer video from my cam corder to my computer via usb . I lost the software that it came with which is not even compatible with windows vista. I contacted sony they have drivers I can upload but I need to purchase a replacement cd since I need the part # from the disk. So I need to purchase out of date software from them before I can get anywhere. Please someone tell me there is an easier way.

I have a sony dcr-hc21 handycam

You may be out of luck as you need the specific drivers for those sony cams...

I ran into the same problem and had to go digging for those drivers

Sony Vegas is pretty nice and easier to use (for me) than Adobe Premier.

Rob, I know I might be out of luck in fact my luck is so bad when I go to the track to bet on a horse the teller gives me the ticket already ripped up.

Ok it's getting late time to call it a night.

If you haven't figured this out yet:

One easy way around this is to transfer the video to a dvd and then rip the dvd to your computer.

No dummy at all as obvious as this is, it took me a few minutes to realize this as well.

I had a similar problem as you, no cables or software for a camera to hook up to the 'puter.

I purchased an inexpensive dvd recorder, about $100.00 from Bst Buy. It enabled me to do two things: transfer my vhs tapes to dvd for backup and move my films from the camera to dvd to my 'puter.

Using the dvd recorder, plug your camera into the inputs of the recorder and record your items to dvd. Now you have a physical backup of your item. Next, transfer the dvd to your computer (assumes you have a dvd player in your 'puter) with a ripper program (there are several rippers available for free).

I use this technique for two things: proof of inspection for rentals and archiving, and listings video archive. This way I have a hard copy of each property and won't clog up my 'puter HD.

Best of luck.
