I am a single mother working as a teacher and want to purchase a home. But don't think I can afford a home. I am tired of paying rent. Is there a way I can become a homeowner and not pay an outrageous mortgage? Your advice will be greatly appreciated!

Our area is quite expensive for first time home buyers so there are incentives for teachers, policeman, etc. to help them out with that first house.

You'd have to check your area but here in St. Pete there's some down payment assistance and they've either purchased, or are debating purchasing some existing buildings to turn them into condo's for educators.

Before you give up you may want to check your local communities to see if there are any similar plans in your local communities. Your professional association should be able to point you in the right direction.
