I wanted to share something I did this morning, and have done many times before in the REW blogs (as well as my own blogs).
This morning I was watching the news and spotted a couple of local current events that are taking place this weekend. Knowing how quickly the REW blogs are getting indexed these days, coupled with the search volume I expect for these events, I quickly put together a couple of blog entries here and here. Well, within an hour or so I got them both indexed and folks are finding the blog entries. See 'hairspray in yakima,' 'hairspray in tri cities washington,' 'trac home and garden show,' etc. There are certainly many other combinations folks will use, but these are a few samples to ilustrate the point. You ask, "Why go for these?" Well, if enough folks are finding my blog entry, then the chances increase they may be needing a real estate agent, or perhaps know of a friend that needs a real estate agent, etc. Also, I will get residual hits when folks are searching for the performing arts centers these productions are being held at. I just thought I would throw that out as an option for blog entry ideas. ![]()

Smuck,
Sorry to burst your bubble, but they are super long tails that 1) will not draw much traffic and 2) any traffic you will pull are looking for info on the musical, not looking to buy real estate. Of course if the musical links were affiliate links, you'd be making money with that post, but that's a whole nother ball of wax. When you run keyword research, focus on mid-range targeted high traffic terms. There's no way around sitting down with Excel and a keyword tool for an hour making list of 100 terms or so and then planning a content strategy around those keywords. Then later, when you're doing link building, you will have content that websites that "touch" on your niche can link to. If your website is just a 12 pager site with property listings, there won't be much people will feel compelled to link to. I'd also wouldn't bother linking to a news site. They will never link back to you. Instead, run a blog search and link to a blogger. Last edited by Halfdeck; 02-22-2008 at 07:39 PM. |

Huh? Halfdeck, you didn't get the point and purpose of the blog entry (and this thread). You might consider rereading it. We're talking marketing, not seo. In principle, the same reason a person would purchase a banner sponsorship at a little league field I'm posting the blog entry. A person goes to the little league field to watch baseball. If they happen to need a realtor, or know of someone looking, then the exposure works. I know this to be true, as we've advertised this way.

Joe I`m with you on this and use it to a similar effect sometimes when there are big exhibitions on here in Dubai, also it breaks up the subjects you are blogging on a bit more.

Joe is right about this one and it's called Branding. I did something similar last April here --> and it's been viewed 725 times.
Obviously not mind boggling numbers but it's 725 people in our direct area that have seen our name. Besides that, when do people start getting rid of all the stuff laying around the house?

Isn't what Joe is describing the reason we want to run niche site focussed on one community? I am with him on this one, this is an excellent idea and something that has been fermenting in my brain for some time now (if I was as good at fermenting as the makers of Stella, I'd be rich)

I've done that a few times as well and it certainly does work. In fact, my last post yesterday was about an upcoming local event. (I don't use REW blogs much, but you can find them on my local website.)

But you're talking about putting up a billboard on the side of a road in the middle of nowhere. Your sign also has a big REW brand on it - if you really care about branding, you put your content on your own domain. Of course posts on REW ranks higher and get indexed quicker. But your brand is diluted compared to posts on blogs like Rain City Guide or Bloodhound Blog. Finally, blogging topic needs to have something to do with your target audience. If your blog is a marketing tool, your target audience is other real estate bloggers, not buyers - because bloggers have the power to spread your message, buyers don't. According to your post, your motive for publishing those posts are to rank fast and get eyeballs - that's short-sighted. You want to captivate the interest of your target audience, minimize publishing posts on topics that they are not interested in, and gain mindshare. I got videos on YouTube with over 200,000 views - so what? That by itself means nothing unless I can transform those viewers into a following and ultimately into conversions. If you're only interested in having 10 people in your neighborhood read your blog, that's fine, as long as you have a separate blog that targets a larger audience; without topics of national interest, you are going to be looking at something in the range of 100 visits/day from Google, when you could be pulling 1,000+ visits/day. |

I'm following this one...I think it is a good idea, I just wish my reaction time in the morning was as fast as yours
