Default Question on keeping track of mileage

I figured I would use excel to keep track of my mileage. I figure that is one of the big expenses and when i buy supplies I can make a category for that. I just would like to know if anyone has a website that can help me figure out the best way to do this. or point me in the right direction. I want to make sure I write everything I can off, I found that some people in my office don't do this, i think its crazy not to.

I found a great template for excel for mileage but it has no category for items that i bought. I just want a template that i can put mileage and expenses. I want to be able to just hand it to my CPA at the end of the year or quarter.

i tracked my mileage for a year. just kept a composition book in my car and did my best to log in it before and after every trip. Then I calculated my percent business vs personal and used that to do my actual expense write off for the last 3 years.

Good luck,
Joe

I use excel also.

I have a spreadsheet I enter all our account information into and go through this with my accountant every year. It's pretty involved and links our rental properties as well.

If you had the mind to, many accounting packages provide decent enough abilities but tend to be complicated.

One thing: Your accountant may be the best resource for this question. My accountant offers several services including setting up accounting software, submitting receipts to them monthly as well as providing spreadsheets for their customers.
