This came to my attention that a potential client had responded to an e-mail I sent them and they e-mailed me back. They never heard back from me so they thought I flaked on them. I jumped into the options of my e-mail and found out that the "reply to" got hijacked!

Basically, everybody I've been e-mailing that has responded has had their requests/responses sent to this information ---> Paul Galloway with an e-mail address of (edited out)

I called somebody else who I was waiting for a response from and they said the same thing about an e-mail I sent them.

Please change my password ASAP and P.M. me with the new one.

If you are using squirrel mail for webmail - You'll need to sign in with your Full email address.

I don't think that anyone has hijacked your email account so changing your password will not be necessary nor will it address this issue. I think what's happening here is that you are signing into webmail with the username "paul" and Paul from mazzeielectric was doing the same thing.

The way that squirrel mail works is it'll save the settings in a file that uses the username that logged in as the file name. So when you both logged in as the "paul" user his settings overwrote yours. We've had this issue before with users that have the "info" account.

The actual supported email client is Horde http://webmail.suburbanvillagerealty.com/ I recommend that if you are having issues with squirrel mail to switch to Horde.

Weird to a non tech guy such as myself and it certainly is not very pleasing to know that potential clients info. has been going somewhere else.

How can paul at suburbanvillagerealty dot com be routed somewhere else?

In my options for squirell mail we have to set the signature and the "respond to" settings. Weird how this can be changed by another "paul" with a different domain name.

Simplicity is the name of my game. Yuck!

Hi Paul,

Yeah -- I'm really sorry about this ... I'm going to make a post that outlines this much better so it doesn't happen to more customers.

But basically all you have to do to stop this from happening is sign into webmail with the username:

"[edit out address]" ( without the quotes)

And there will be no possible way for someone to change those settings on the squirrel mail.

To attempt to describe this breifly here what happens is you sign into squirrel mail with the username "paul" ... then squirrel mail will write a file called "paul.settings" or something ... then Paul from mazzeielectric.com signed into squirrel mail just like you did with the username "paul" which then wrote a file "paul.settings" .... Which just happens to be the same as yours. Hence it overwrote your file and your squirrel mail account still using that same file to pull it's settings ended up being the same as his.

The solution is to sign in with the username "[edit out email]" ... this way the file will be saved as and no one else has that name and it won't be overwritten. ... On the other server we forced full usernames to avoid this problem. However on the server your hosted on ... changing that would break most of the users email ... so we didn't change it.(yet)
