Default Tropical Florida Website

Any feedback or advice would be appreciated. I've spent a lot of time taking pictures and writing copy on the different areas that we service. I haven't finished writing the copy for all of the pages but I'm about 75% complete. We seem to be ranking fairly well under many of the communities.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That's a bright site! I like it, for the most part. The only things I would change would be the Salmon Coloured background. It's never been a colour I've liked all that much.

I would have gone with a sky blue, maybe. Just personal preference, though.

Another thing, it did take quite a bit of time to load...

Nick, thanks for your response!

I can't figure out why it's taking so long to load. Is it because of the flash at the top? What's the norm for loading time?

I'll try the blue out and see if it looks any better.

It does take a long time to load at my office and it has a pretty fast connection.
You need to check your design in Firefox. It is rendering the search menu on the sides improperly. I really do like the layout and colors. A different font for the Tropical logo would make if much better.

Thanks for the heads up on the Firefox problem. Do you have any suggestions on a better font for the Tropical logo? Do you mean the words Tropical Florida Property at the top?

We wanted the website to convey a very Florida-like feel. Hopefully is does this.

Yes the words Tropical Florida. The font is pretty bland. Sorry no suggestions.
Look around for something more appealing here: dafont.com

Overall, very nice design. The site has a "tropical" feel to it. I'm on T1 and it took about 30 seconds to load. Way too many links in the center column of the page, where all the text is. Background and link colors are very similar. Difficult to read.

Other than that, very nice design and hope it does well. Good job.

It is taking a long time to load...you might want to check with your ISP/web hosting provider

My sites are video sites and my web hosting specialize in video hosting and large bandwith.
These are the requirements. My web host also promotes my sites and draws in big traffic.
You will lose lots of business if your sites do not load within 10 secs

Good Luck

I like the look but the load time is the biggest issue I had also. Here is some data on when I view the page:

tropicalfloridaproperty_flash.swf was 530KB alone

With total of 63 requests adding up to be 1.2MB.

This seems to end up being a pretty large home page for most users to quickly view. Your whole page is in one big table with nested tables for the different sections. This will make browser not be able to render the first part of the page until the browser finds the end of the first table tag. So essentially you have to download the whole page before it is rendered for the user.
