Default Question on sub-leasing.

Hello all.. sorry if this is the wrong forum. My question is how does on go about sub leasing a property? Is it legal? Does the owner have to know? Forgive my stupidity.

Reason i ask is i'm leasing a property for 650 a month.. the average rental in this hood is around 800 so i was wanting to find a way to make a small profit from this. If it's possible.

IF ANYBODY CAN POINT ME TO ANY RESOURCES I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.

Read your lease. Most leases have a clause that deals with this issue.

Most should spell it out. My leases always had a clause that the space could be subleased, but they had to meet my standards (credit history ....).

Absolutely read the fine print in your lease. I'd be surprised if it is allowed but let's say it is... take caution on the sub-tenant you choose. You'll want them to sign something to protect yourself...and be aware that you will be liable for their actions or misdeeds. Also, if they don't pay you the rent, you still have to pay the Landlord.
