I am not sure how they would do that since You Must Get IDX approval before putting it on your web site.

I've seen it being used and I've played with it awhile ago, but not extensively. It's basically a CMS for real estate listings so that you can create your own custom IDX. From what I've seen and remember, it's pretty sweet.

if you are using to market local mls then yes, if you are using for apartment listings or marketing your own properties (such as a property management company) then no you do not need permission

Open source is actually one of the few exceptions - some people in the open source community quite frankly like to build something, just to be a part of it's creation. The PROBLEM is if it does not take off, or those involved loose interest, then you are dead in the water with no support and a half finished or never updated project that you have wasted a lot of time trying to work with.

Open Realty was an interesting concept - but it is trying to provide those who are typically not programmer savvy (Realtors) a simple solution to a very complex problem - #1 it pretty much still takes a programmer to implement (Which costs $) and #2 they have dramatically underestimated the resources required to run a website with IDX for larger boards such as your Dallas Broker (Netries) for some very small boards, it can be a viable solution (Again typically with programmer support) but it will never compete with that thousands of hours a wolfnet or other third party puts into working out the kinks and optimizing the architecture etc.

it is considered open source, from my experience open source software usually has some great features, I don't think there is any angle, more developed with the people in mind like other open source tools..phpbb, weblog, php nuke, etc. of course open source tools sometimes do have bugs, but usually nothing that can't be worked out with a couple hours in the open source support sites

I've been running Open-Realty (without IDX) for two or three years now on a couple of sites. No angle that I'm aware of.
