Default New Links per Day?

I have a lot of time on my hands and feel like I could muster up many many backinks for my site every day if I wanted. But I've heard things about not getting too agressive with link building - that showing up with 30 or 50 new links in a day might be a bad idea.

However, I've also seen some site's (like one of our host's clients, www.jimmessenger.com) backlink numbers soar.

Any actual experience out there about this?

Landon

I would not think that many people have experience with this yet. Obtaining links through a 'natural process' is Google's goal. No one outside of Google knows their time frame. If logic tells you that Google will eventually reach their goal then you should act according. If you have a lot of time, figure out how to link creatively and limit the number of links per day. No one can give you guidance on the optimal number of links per page or the optimal speed you can gather them. I would prefer to err on the low side than the high side.

Jim Messenger does not get 50-60 links per day, not even close - Jim is one of our longest standing real estate clients (Almost 2 years) and google shows a total of 209 links many from internal pages of his own site - this is likely not "overdoing it"

You are correct though, getting 50-60 per day to the same page with the same anchor text would raise flags IMO

Well I don't know why google says 210, but yahoo reports nearly 12000.

12000/700 days (about 2 years) is just over 17 links per day.

Is that a number that the consensus here might feel comfortable with, or must I really scale it down to 5 or 10?

Just looking for the best practice.

thanks for the help.

Landon

Landon,

The age of the site you mentioned is just over 3 years old. That's an average of 10 links per day.

I would say that's a pretty safe number. And probably statistically conservative for a top ranked real estate site.

10 per day would be a lot IMO, but I am very conservative. I don't think that there is an exact answer to your question, it's more of a personal comfort level. Also remember what worked yesterday may not work tomorrow. Be more selective and find quality not quantity.

I added over 10k links, over a 6-month time period, to one of my sites via DP without penalty from either of the big three search engines.

That's quite a disparity - 10 per day vs. 55 a day. Yikes.

And what is DP?

Thanks

Here is a post from last year. After reading Google Patent Application: 0050071741 earlier this year I dediced that continuing to be active in the Ad Network was no longer a good decision and stopped recommending it.

IMO, "Age of Page" is a factor in determining how many new links a page can receive before tripping a flag.
