do you mean what format to save it to to upload it to your site. If that is the question, I always use jpg as it seems to compress the best, keep most of its clarity and load fast

Ditto.

@Goknights, If you are referring to the place to put them, I've been using photobucket and have been happy with them.

I like the kodak gallery. It's pretty easy to upload, download, share, order prints, etc.

.jpg always works the best for me. Depending on how many photos you have bandwidth could be a concern if you are not changing file size. We adjust dpi.

Hi

The best rule for image usage in the web can be defined as:

- If the image is a Photo or a complex colored image (e.g. with color gradients) the format to use should be JPG. JPGs can have it’s compression adjusted.
Usually for a screen-only usage I use 72dpi, JPG with a maximum of 60% quality. This usually gives a very good ratio between size and visual accuracy.

- If the image is a bitmap, clipart like, simple, or to render text as an image, then GIF (or PNG) should be used.
Both GIF and PNG8 are lossless
8-bit color depth formats (256 colors), which is more then enough for the usages described.

Any image you consider to have more then 256 colors should be rendered as a JPG for web usage. JPG although being a lossy format, has a 24-bit color depth (16.7 million colors).
Any image with large areas of uniform color, simple compositions, or color monotony should be rendered as GIF

Cheers!
