There seems to be limitations on how many kw I can put in the meta tag kw section.Is there any reason for this? Can it be increased? If there is a limitation, what is the rationale behind it?

Saving you from yourself - Actually, meta keywords are not used by Google any more for ranking your website, and in a VERY limited capacity in other search engines. You really should not be putting any more than 3-4 of the main phrases for your page in there.

Gregg, as you and I talked about...Google doesn't use KW much, if any. Over the years its been misused so much that SE company's felt it was being used more for spaming. Concentrate instead on page title tags, meta descriptions, and content. If I do fill out a kw section its something I'll only do when I have the time to and only add 3-5 keywords.

I have seen so much variety over time I wondered what was real with that. I guess it is a low rank on the algo scale now. I am still working and adding unique content. I just hate to see them blank as we do pages and forget to do that component. What about the meta description? Low algo too?

I wonder in the ever changing field of seo if what once worked, such as meta kw, and now abandoned by an engine if there is any chance that it may become a larger part of the algorithm in future?

Since we always reacting in seo it seems logical to me to continue somethings in moderation rather then abandoning them completely.

As a site owner there are somethings I would do naturally in links, kw, descriptions, etc. and it seems like when ever a change has been made it was because of someone created a business out of over emphasising or padding just 1 facet of seo to excess. i.e. links, meta kw, kw stuffing, paid inclusion, etc. There has to be a benefit for building a business and site that has a little of everything but nothing in excess. That is to say I would keep meta kw because it is historically natural and you never know when a new SE may come around that uses them.

Of course it is hard to argue with the smart guys results too.

I agree, hence why I tell people it can't hurt to put your most important couple of phrases in there - don't put a ton of effort in, but it only takes a minute.

Yeah - you never know when a search engine will come along that likes meta keywords but ignores them when there are more than 3, or something.

If you've done your meta titles right, you should be able to just grab your main keywords from there and drag 'em into the meta kw's field. Maybe a little modification will be needed, but not much.

Gregg, you asked about meta descriptions. Those are important because humans see them in the SERPS, when they're trying to decide whose site to click on.

Yes, thanks, I have been working on tying the bunch together in a little bit broader range of kw's and descriptions. Am looking at who and what their descriptions are and see what seems to be highlighted.

Also noticing when there is a sparse G selection of choices what KW's it find either there or somewhere on a page and have been trying to work those terms in. Am finally getting on the first page for my major terms and starting to move up. It is interesting to see how things come up in sequence. As you pointed out in one of our SEO sessions to watch for that and I have noticed my major hits for KW's such and changed something from "city"listings mls to city mls listings as that is what it more often typed. Interesting to note page count does not seem to have much of an effect, except long tail.

I have noticed on an earlier search, my title was spot on, but the other person must have had more age or links or something to be above me. I'll climb over them soon with the amount of stuff I have been doing Thanks
