Default Deep linking?

I keep seeing that things should be deep linked or maybe that someone is deeplinking something...what exactly does that refer to and is it good in some cases and bad in others?

I was getting pretty good results with deep linking.... in my area it seems no-one elese is doing it. The only bummer is it's hard to find directories that accept deep links.... about the only place to can submit deep links are in signatures or article directories.

Ryan,

on the link you provided it said:
Deep linking, on the World Wide Web, is making a hyperlink that points to a specific page or image on another website, instead of that website's main or home page. Such links are called deep links.

Should it really point to a different website or an internal page within your website that has content about that keyword?

Point to an internal page within your website with relevant anchor text from another website, blog, or directory!

When you say anchor text from another website, cant you optimize that for whatever internal page you are linking to?

Look at your signature link.
Anchor text is "Atlanta Real Estate" pointed to a site about "Atlanta Real Estate" from another site that is relevant to Real Estate (being this page).

"Atlanta Condo" in your signature link should point to a page on your site that is specific to "Atlanta Condos", an interior page, that would be deep linking.

"Atlanta Homes" pointing to an interior page that was specific to "Atlanta Homes" would be an additional deep link with juice going to another one of your pages with different anchor text and letting the SE world know that it was important in that it was linked to from a site important to real estate with words that were important to "Atlanta Homes" therefore voting your "Atlanta Homes" page as having some importance to the term "Atlanta Homes".

I think Cal just explained it, but a deep link is just a link to your website that doesn't go directly to your homepage.

In example, my signature... I use the anchor tag "Bellingham, WA relocation". My homepage is bellingham-wa-homes (dot) com, but I "deep linked" the anchor tag to bellingham-wa-homes (dot) com/Relocation/. This sends juice from REW to my relocation page. This is also relevant for readers that are interested in learning more about relocating to Bellingham because they can skip my homepage and go straight to the content they are interested it.

So from a site like this, woudl it be better to link to three "deep" pages or three different sites?
