I noticed that the title refered to the fact that this post is a warning for the ladies, please know that male agents can be victimized as well. I am a real estate safety trainer and these stories get my attention. I have heard of men and women getting robbed and/or assaulted while in this field. Both have valuables, so it isn't always about a sexual assault. There are steps to take to prevent these crimes. I commend the agent in this story for AT FIRST listening to her instinct and refusing to go in. So often, in the interest of being polite, we ignore that voice. If it feels wrong, it is wrong. Your number one safety tool is to, "trust your gut." Always leave valuables (purses, pda's, laptops, etc.) at home or in the car, they make you more vunerable and crime is about opportunity. If you have a safety device, it should be accessible, that includes cell phones (with 911 pre-programmed) and any safety product; pepper spray, etc. Make sure someone knows where you are at all times. If you don't come back home or to the office, they need to know where to send help. If you carry a product (spray or alarm), make sure it is the right formula and test it regularly, especially before you need it.
