Are you talking about bandit signs?

Careful what you do with bandit signs. San Antonio has new ordinances that allows anyone to tear them down and for the city to prosecute the responsible party on the sign.

someone from another fourm, said they buy a cheap tracfone from walmart, you know the prepaid phones, and put that number on the bandit signs, and send all calls to their voicemail. Then screen the calls from there.

I used to use them, But it is illegal and could get you banned from this forum. I got a warning for talking about it. If you would like to know more email me.

Are these "bandit" signs? Maybe I should have said, coroplast signs?

To my knowledge, they are "legal" in Va - every one is using them

im confused. how can this be illegal . . . its just like when you do an open house an you put up OPEN HOUSE signs . . .

fOR INSTANCE, I CHECKED WITH "MY" COUNTY - they allow

on site
off site, directional
open house
one day directional - 1 sign per street intersection, must be gone when "event" is over,

OK! so that means "it is illegal" - . . . but dang! so many agents i know do it . . . how do you get by with it?

It depends on the city. It seems that once agents (or others) start to clutter up the public medians, greenbelts, etc, a city will pass an ordinance restricting the placement of rogue signs without a permit or strict control.

Many of our cities restrict even open house signs to 5, some cities require only a green or red arrow sign with no other advertising, some cities only allow one open sign total on any street corner pointing in one direction (hence, agents try to get theirs first by putting up their directional sign at dawn), etc.

They just choose to ruin it for the rest of us. It is the same thing as speeding. If you think you can get away with it, you do it until you get caught.

In Bend, the city recently revised the sign ordinance. We are only allowed to have one sign on the property, no directionals! For Open Houses we are still not allowed to place directionals on city owned "right of ways". We can only place directionals on private property, (the corner lot). I've knocked on one door to ask about placing a Open House directional on their property. They were fine with it, but the directional was easely missed by drivers.

It's making it really hard to have quality open houses. I've done surveys at open houses, and usually over 3/4 of the visitors find the home by signs, (not advertised open house ads).
