I am not sure if this is a good thing, or bad. If yahoo takes on the characteristics of google, then it may be a good thing, if it means plugging up search results on google of yahoo stuff, then it may be a bad thing

I would not think it would be good for business for Google to have its SERPs dominated by Yahoo subdomains. To this point, Google seems to have had its arm around it's smaller brother and given it significant authority. The way Yahoo is doing things, it seems that the only inevitable choice by Google, to protect its own position, will to devalue those subdomains along with chopping down Yahoo's authority.

I think it would be a bad thing for everyone. Erogers, you have some good points in you post.

This would be a major monopoly over search engine traffic. Some how I doubt government regulators would allow this to happen....
But if it did happen, you wouldn't hear me complaining one bit. ![]() |

I dont think in is much different than the 2 and 3 combine as opposed to 1 and 2 other than it captures about 90% of all traffic online...but I dont see google taking over the serps, why have 2 sites spitting out the same exact serps, doesnt make much sense

They definitely wouldn't be showing the same organic results, how-ever you can bet that the non-organic paid adds would be the same

I would be confused as to why Google would want to purchase Yahoo. They seem so far ahead on many things. Seems like a big merger that would just slow them down. Usually is much easier to integrate other companies into becoming divisions within yours instead of buying someone who does the same thing as you.

Are there rumors that Google will acquire Yahoo just to keep Microsoft from getting them? I thought Google was just going to serve ads on the Yahoo network...

Oh. If Google makes a bid to stop msn from acquiring Yahoo I could see that but still how much traffic would both sites combine for?
