I was just reading that the CAPTCHA code has been broken and that bots can now get past it. So does anyone have an idea of what is next in line to replace CAPTCHA?

Hi Neal, sounds interesting. Was the information posted by a reliable source? I was thinking that if it were an individual posting in a message board, it's possible that they didn't implement the CAPTCHA correctly...?

I read it in an article about Google's blogs being spammed with bot created articles. It appears that the hackers have determined a method of automating creating accounts.

Interesting... the article below talked about Gmail being used to send spam and about the Gmail CAPTCHA being solved by AI...
"Brad Taylor, a Google software engineer known informally as the company’s spam czar, says that internal evidence shows that the rise in spam originating from Gmail accounts stems not from captcha-busting programs. Instead, he said, spammers are using the old-fashioned “mechanical turk” trick—an operation where low-paid laborers in third-world countries are enlisted to solve the puzzles, one by one. “You can see it is clearly done by humans,” Mr. Taylor said. “There are patterns in the rate we find bogus accounts, like at night time and when people get off work,” in certain parts of the world." - http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/0...s-for-3-a-day/ Also, there's some interesting reading on CAPTCHA Circumvention on Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captcha |
