Default Are Blogs going to make traditional sites extinct?

Blogs are now the trend and everyone seems to have one. If I was to start a new site it would be the blog format. Do you think traditional websites will become extinct and all we will see is blogs?

Good question - my take would be that 'it depends'.

It depends on the purpose of the site, and the functionality that a 'blog-based' site would offer. Thinking about this in an extreme sense, even if a new format was overwhelmingly popular it could not, by nature, address the needs of everyone. So, the format may be on the extinction list but not extinct.

We still have floppy drives, don't we?

Blogs are popular, but trends come and trends go. I guess you could setup a real estate site with each listing being it's own blog entry. However, I'm not sure how that would really differ from a traditional website.

Replace all websites, not a chance.

I disagree agree that blogs will replace traditional static sites, I think instead we'll see some kind of combination of the two as the benefits of web 2.0 evolves over time.

As long as Realtors are Realtors first and not bloggers, we will always have sites that don't feature a blog. Not every Realtor has the inclination, or the need, to develop business through the internet...

Blogs are great vehicles for certain things but I do not see them replacing all traditional sites. I tend to agree with Bham. I think what we will see will become a hybrid of traditional site and blog, as the web gradually changes.

Exactly, or even better incorporate the 2. (i.e. domain and domain/blog)
