My desk is stacked high with sticky notes, business cards, cell phones and their messages, answering machines and their messages as well as a gazillion daily e-mails. How do you stay organized? I do have a few software solutions but if I were to actually use them I would spend another hour a day just inputting information...

We just hired an assistant to help deal with some of the day-to-day stuff.

I have the same problem, my desk looks like a tornado rolled through. It's hard to stay organized in this business. I find myself writing all my "must do" actvities down.

Mike, you should just carry a tape recorder around when you need to make a note. Save the environment and desk space.

I use and like a lot of the ideas and concepts from David Allen's Getting Things Done.
Ultimately I think it's not as much the system, but the discipline to a use and stick with a system, any system. I always seem to fall back into old habits, I'm not large consumer of sticky notes, but I've got a pile of steno pads on my desk that I'm constantly flipping through trying to remeber where I wrote someting down.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who has a problem with this. I'm always writing on random pieces of paper etc..... Then when I need to find the information on the paper a couple of days later, the search begins

webify as much as you can and lose the paper when possible

I try to file things as quickly as possible. If you have a good filing system, then it's easy to pull them back out. But if they sit in the desk unfiled, then it can quickly pile up out of control.
I also write and rewrite "to do" lists every couple of days. This helps keep me honest about what needs doing and what I've done, and I get to savor the moment of crossing things off the list.
