With the long dance that has been going on I have seen a fairly significant change in # of indexed pages. A month ago, my site had fewer than 675, a week ago it was 740, then down to around 715 and today shows 775. Anyone else seeing this?

I have not really seen to much movement, but I don't watch total indexed pages all that closely.

Sam,
It seems to be the norm. The site: command is notoriously unreliable in any case. The counts are different from DC to DC, depending on which one it hits, and that will vary depending on the hops through various internet hubs and routers. I had a PPC client in Florida do a site: command on my site last week, and the DC he hit showed a page count more than 2x what I was seeing here.

I have noticed fluctuation too, and at times it has been drastic movement in number of indexed pages, but I'm not too worried about it because like you said that site: command is very unreliable and Google doesn't let you know all of the pages they have indexed anyway.

I have noticed some larger swings in one of my other sites but that one contains around 10,000 pages. Not sure if it is the size that makes it fluctuate so much but my much smaller real estate site doesn't fluctuate much at all.

I don't follow the number of indexed pages google holds for me, but would it really make a difference as long as you are ranked consistently on the first page? Just my thought
