I have found a service that offers linking and its fairly easy to link and they offer pretty decent ranking pages to link to. However I have a question my site is a real estate site, will it matter if I link to non related sites to improve my ranking? its call linkmarketdotcom

Yes, sooner or later Google will not like it.
The following is taken from Google's webmaster guidelines:

"Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links."

Keep the links that you have on your site relevant and as much as you can control try to get links from relevant web pages to yours.
The relevant links have more value anyway.

I would not link to off-topic sites if the link is part of a link scheme. If links are natural I'd link to whatever topic site all day long.

The general trend of search engines lead by Google is to value quality over quantity. I wouldn't recommend to use this kind of service. Though I think that reciprocal linking is ok as long as it is only a small portion of your total backlinks (not more than 20%).

Try to gain more one way backlinks. You can achieve these backlinks from several types of activities like:

• Social bookmarking
• Comments on blogs (look for dofollow blogs)
• Article marketing
• Participate in relevant forums
• Participate in relevant communities of social networks
• Press releases

The above list is enough to start with.

I agree with Repa, I have very few link trades but by participating in blogs, forums, and articles, I have seen my rankings already start to rise. I have only been doing this about a month so far. Natural is the way to go.

I would follow Repa's advice. Link swaps are a last resort. Though reciprocal links are fine when done in moderation, most people don't know when to say when, and creating recips through a service is not a great idea because a service may create footprints you can't control.

That makes a lot of sense thanks for the heads up.
