Hi Gregg,

We're making changes to the IDX today - so you might have noticed a brief period of downtime - The Map on that page you linked to is an Iframe to Google Maps - ( It's not tied into the IDX ) - so no listings will show up on that map.

Yes I knew that, but there was nothing displaying in the lower idx section for the snippet.

I made all the changes that MLSL advised us to make to the metadata, areas, cities, virtually every property in the system was redownloaded. I even refreshed all the geocodes for the map searches. Changes were scheduled (for June 2nd) from MLSL (previously REIL) for quite a while now.

Naturally there was a need to momentarily switch the databases on our end as well and do one last test on the production environment.

All changes have been made now. Have fun.

When customers search with the 8 digit numbers they get nothing. Will that change soon?

The database has 2 fields now for MLS numbers:

ListingID and NewListingID (this one has the larger number)

I have left your sites to run off the old listing number. For various reasons: 1. your sites are indexed with old listing numbers, possible clients have already researched homes with the old number system and this could break favorites and links etc. Also it is not neccessary to change to the new 8 digit number system.

Read this direct from the mass email MLSL sent to it's subscribers:

Quote:
"The addition of a new MLS number field. To accommodate continued growth in the database, we will be moving from a 6-digit MLS number to an 8-digit MLS number for our internal systems. Moving to the 8-digit number will be optional for data users, as the current 6-digit number will continue to exist for properties listed within the last 10 years. If you do nothing with the new MLS ID, you will not be affected. If you need to be able to access listings older than 10 years (available for broker-level datafeeds only), you will need to use the 8-digit number found the “NewListingID” field. "

If you really want to switch the entire site to the new MLS number style let me know.

Yes I got that one and understand your logic on this end. When I do searches on the MLS system I now know not to use the 80 number for older listings.

I assume all new listings will have that prefix. BTW is the mapping problem resolved?

Yes your mapping and web site is 100% as it was before. as well as your map search: http://www.propertyinsantacruz.com/idx/map/

The new prefixes applied to listings correspond to the last 2 digits of the year the listing was first listed. So next years new listings will be prefixed with 90 for 2009 such as 90123456.

This is normally how MLS boards manage to keep there databases fill with only 10 years of data. Adjustments like this allow historic data to be retained for longer periods of time.

Thanks Anthony for the heads up on the lack of changing the numbering system. I have been having numerous map problems and didn't know if the idx and map issues were falling under your purview since you were helping in this area. Santa Cruz was not displaying any icons of properties earlier.
