I just made it into the top 20 for a keyword phrase I have been targeting for a while now. Hopefully the top 10 is just around the corner but we will see. Do you guys think that posting articles for backlinks or trying to alter my page for keyword densitiy would be best to increase from here? I am a little afraid of altering my page because of the unknown factor.

Don't do this. Keyword density doesn't affect your rankings in the least. Just make sure you include your keywords in the title tag, and naturally use them on the page.

Hey Ryan-

It sure is exciting when we see ourselves moving up in rankings.

Just a heads up for you. Don't get devastated if you finally get to page 1 and then suddenly bounce back to page 2 or 3. In fact yesterday I was #4 on page 1 for the term "Rio Rancho real estate" and then later in the day I was on page 2, and now I am #5. It makes no sense but I have seen this with other search terms I use as well. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason why this happens. I have noticed that once you get a 1,2, or 3 you seem to stay there. Anyway I wanted to give you warning in case this happens to you. My experience has been that eventually you come back to where you were or higher.

Any other webmasters have any opinions on why this may happen?

Great, continue with the activities that was successful for you and add other types of link building activities as well. I'm a bit biased regarding articles but I think that they are very effective especially when done on a regular basis.

Yes, fluctuation does happen but with continuation of link building from relevant web pages with the right anchor text and as mentioned by Eric using the required title tags, h1 tags and even bold/italic/underline decoration in a moderate way assist your ranking.

The good thing about submitting articles is that you have some control of the mentioned above factors on pages linking to your website.

I recently made the first page for my most competitive keyword. It definitely has inspired me to work harder to retain my first page status. Currently #5. Been holding between #4 and #9 for the last week. Last 3 days have been at #5. Been working on adding more links with good anchors.

Do articles create that many backlinks? I never have seen the articles I submitted to ezine show up under my backlinks.

You can log to your author account and add the links to the resource box.

Make sure to use your required keywords in the anchor text that you wish to rank for in the search engines. Vary the used anchor text.
