There is a lot of content out there regarding Google's recommendation to keep any single page at or below 100 links (internal, external, menu, - all).
I have noticed that my site is not getting any more pages indexed and I think it may be due to my sitemap (348 links). I"ve seen recommendations for sitemaps to be broken across multiple pages to keep link count down. Anyone out there have any direct experience or recommendations on this topic? Would love to get some input...

Matt Cutts has recommended breaking up the sitemap into sections, so that's what I would recommend.
The problem is more than likely not your sitemap. If you're not getting more pages indexed, you either have an internal link structure problem, a lack of sufficient PR, or both. Personally, I haven't updated my sitemap in over a year, and don't even bother putting them on new sites. I haven't had any problems w/ anything getting indexed. If you'd like to give us an example of a page that won't index, and how I would navigate to it from your index page, I'll take a look at it.

Eric,
Thanks for the offer. Page that should be indexed (ActiveRain post to it, site map, community search page) One way to the page (the page below is accessible from my home page and menu structure - ("Carson Valley Real Estate"): http://www.freenevadamove.com/carson...arch-guide.php Sitemap: http://www.freenevadamove.com/sitemap.php ActiveRain Post (juicing the page): http://activerain.com/blogsview/5315...es-South-Homes Also, try googling: stodick estates homes for sale gardnerville and you will see related pages but not the page that really should get the top rankings... I am adding a bunch of similar pages and want to make sure I am not doing so erroneously in terms of SEO. Thanks!

How recently did you post those pages on your site?
How do I navigate to the Stodick page?

Alright man...I think it's because of a lack of content. You don't have anything on there but links. I checked one of my pages (w/ links, sans content) and saw the same thing - check it out. That page is old enough, has enough internal links, and my site is juiced enough that it should definitely be cached.
Your index is a PR3, so you shouldn't have a problem getting your tier 2's to cache. Try adding ~150 words of content, shoot some more links to it, and see what happens.

Thanks Eric - I'll try wrapping some summary descriptions of the communities into the page.

So, I have been hearing different things from different people about site maps. Some say they do not matter and others think they are important. Why are site maps important if you believe they are or why do you think they are not really that important if you believe that to be the case?

I break my sitemaps up into pages of 100 each.
