Gooogle just released a new "layer" to Trends a few days ago - Google Trends for Websites.
On a related note, does anyone have an opinion on the Data Sharing in Analytics? Any pros and cons?

The google trends is pretty nifty, but for every website in my market except one (the online version of the newspaper Augusta Chronicle) Google trends doesn't have any data. So unfortunately it's pretty hard to find it useful for anything related to my online sales activities...

I'm not sure what Google is using as a criteria for collecting data. It's something over 2K visitors a day. So for the average site it does help much.

Quote:
"Trends for Websites combines information from a variety of sources, such as aggregated Google search data, aggregated opt-in anonymous Google Analytics data, opt-in consumer panel data, and other third-party market research. The data is aggregated over millions of users, powered by computer algorithms, and doesn't contain personally identifiable information. Additionally, Google Trends for Websites only shows results for sites that receive a significant amount of traffic, and enforces minimum thresholds for inclusion in the tool." "Not all websites are included in Trends for Websites. The following types of websites may not appear in the tool: Websites with low traffic volume below our threshold Websites that don't wish to be indexed by Google and have indicated their preference through a robots.txt exclusion file Websites that don't adhere to our Quality Guidelines Other websites for miscellaneous reasons"
