Default Can someone point me to the Viacom thread?

I know you guys must be talking about it over here at REW but I can't seem to find it.

My bad, I assumed everyone new what I was talking about. The entire SEO world (or at least my small section of it) has been talking about the court order giving Viacom access to YouTube Video user logs dismissing pretty much all privacy concerns.

Quote:
The database includes information on when each video gets played, which can be used to determine how often a clip is viewed.
Attached to each entry is each viewer's unique login ID and the Internet Protocol, or IP, address for that viewer's computer.
The news was about a week old, so I thought there would have been a thread already posted on it. I was curious to see what the REW peeps thought about it.

Here is Danny Sullivan's Blog on it

Didn't mean to confuse you Nick

It wasn't so much the subject matter, but the characters in the post. (See below). And no worries. It's not hard to confuse me

Oh, I see!

It was SEO Quake/Firefox . . . it is always doing stuff like that.

I went back and cleaned it up.

I don't really hang out with the purely SEO crowd but this ruling does not sound good. It seems like more users will upload potential "infringing videos" on foreign sites like todou where US courts have no jurisdiction.

What really seems odd is that it looks as though Google is just going to hand the data over. I was always under the impression that Google was a different type of company. Google should fight it on behalf of their user's privacy.

It would be one thing if they were handing over data that just showed the videos were downloaded but they are handing over IP addresses and user names. Not good

Which part are you asking about, the latest comment or the main post?

Lou;

I (candid admission here) saw it and paid no attention...been to busy building stuff. Whatever they will do they will do...grin. I view my main function is to react and adapt to what I see in search...

That having been said, it will be interesting to see how it sorts out.

Best;

Eric
