Default "Where it's at" - A question for the Americans

Need some feedback on a language matter:

In my experience, it's normal (colloquially) to say something like "That's not where I'm at right now."
or
"Considering where your home renovation is at, it's unlikely you'll be finished by winter."

Somebody told me back in 1998 that it's a Canadianism - is it? Don't you Americans use this?

There's a Beck song called "Where It's At" which seems to indicate that the phrase is commonly acepted in the south - but I just discovered that Beck's dad was Canadian.

Thanks in advance!

Ending a sentence with a preposition is incorrect. i don't know that i would call it a colloquial.

for instance:
where is real estate webmasters located at? yikes!!
where is real estate webmasters located? correct!!

No need for the prep at the end of the sentence.

I remember getting responses like it's between the A and T. However, us Southerners would certainly know "where it's at"! Ain't that a shame!

Thanks guys - just to be clear, I'm not concerned about the grammatical correctness - I just need to know if it would sound totally ridiculous and foreign, if I used it in casual (written) parlance with an American.

Your first example seems very casual, it reminds me of a cell phone campaign a couple of years ago, where the people would call and ask, "where you at". Your second example seems more "normal" if answering a direct question, but not sure if it were part of an article.

I use that phrase often. Do you know where my shoes are at? No, it's not grammatically correct, but people use it. I don't see it as strictly Canadian, since I've never even been to Canada.

Academics are moving away from the don't use a preposition at the end of a sentence. Especially in journalism and scientific writting. Just my .02

In New Orleans we are called "yats". Where yat? Correctly spelled would be Where are you at?

Yes it would sound totally ridiculous and foreign. This is something you use in very very casual conversation and it does show a lack of education in most circumstances
