Anyone read about the new offering by Google called Knol - sort of short for knowledge? It is supposed to be sort of like Wikipedea and will some sort of collaboration on articles. Any thoughts on this?

Yes, this is a marketing tool to look at.

Per an article I just read..

"Article submitters would be allowed to display advertising along with their articles and the revenue generated from these ads would be shared with the user."

You can also make comments with URL's... so you can get yourself a back link.

It's a great way to establish yourself as an authority for X - I've read a few experiments that have produced 1st page rankings from a few well set up Knols - it's another opportunity to get you and your brand out there and another opportunity for a page you created to show up in the SERPs.

I can't see Google allowing junk -

great tool for exposure and backlinks, sounds like the good articles will get quite a bit of visibility as well, will have to find time to fit into the other 10 dozen article writing authority sites....
