My PageRank dropped from 3 to 2.

Google pagerank for my site, www.austinhomelistings.com, went from 3 to 2. I'm not sure when this happened becuase I haven't focused on SEO in awhile. We've added content over the last few months and haven't done any major changes that would raise google's ire.

Also, I really haven't noticed a decrease in our traffic and we still rank well for "austin home search" (#2) and "austin homes for sale" (#3). I did notice we dropped a few spots for "austin real estate" awhile back but we were never higher than number #6 for that phrase anyway.

Does anyone know why my site's Pagerank might drop for no reason? I haven't been to these forums in awhile so please excuse me if I'm asking a question that has been discussed already. If there is another thread I should read, please direct me to it.

Mine dropped also. Mustve been a google update.
Most people here will tell you pagerank does not matter, as long as you are doing well with the search engines.

This is most likely your answer - the web is dynamic, pages that link to you (And those that link to them) ebb and flow in terms of pagerank, doing nothing and the best you hope for is to stay where you are - but if everyone else drops, you drop, or if people remove your link, and you aren't getting new ones, you drop - or if you just aren't doing anything to "earn" website reputation etc

You kind of answered your own question - if you keep doing nothing, you will continue to loose ground to those people who are.

That's out of context - Pagerank matters a LOT - what does not matter (And you should avoid doing) is worrying about the "foolbar" you should always be working on and focused on maintaining and growing your pagerank. Just don't expect to see it in some browser helper object.

I assumed he was talking about the foolbar. Where would one go to get an accurate pagerank?

webmaster, just to be clear... we've continually added good content to the site which is what I thought Google always said mattered most.

It sounds like your saying that links are still king. Since reciprocal linking is dead and paid links have always been out of the question, what can one do to "earn" legit website reputation. Is the only answer to sign up on the numerous blog sites and post blogs with links back to your site? if so, i don't know how busy realtors have the time. what else can one do?

So i just looked at the forums and saw the entire section on "link building strategies". i guess i'll take that as my tutorial and go find the answers to my own question above.

This site is great. i shouldn't have stayed away for so long.

That's not really what I said - great content is king - why because it "earns" you great links, the kind of editorial links you cannot get through buying, trading or posting

Content also serves as great spider food. Keep writing good and unique content while working on building link popularity.

Hi, Just to let you know we're in the same boat. Our page rank dropped from 4 to 3 and in that we'd been working on the running of site, and not keeping the SEO up. So now we're fencing time for SEO with article writing, forum searching (this is great, thanks) and rechecking keywords,etc.
